We’ve come a long way from an empty field and a vision here at Jacob’s Well.
Over the last month, rain and shine, the workers from Polygon homes have shown up! They have been hauling dirt, leveling the ground, and starting the foundations of Building B. Within 72 hours, the cement beginnings of the daylight basement gained wooden framing on the back wall, and the entire base of the ground floor! Every day the project looks completely different. It’s a race to keep up with which team of workers is going to show up next.
Things haven’t been happening any slower inside Building A.
Over the last month we’ve seen two families move into permanent housing! Two moms recently moved into Jacob’s Well, each with infants and one with a toddler. It’s been a joy to see needs getting met by the community, sometimes even before we ask! We eagerly await the final news of three more families we expect to move into permanent housing by Christmas.
Between the bustle of construction and move-outs and –ins, we’ve seen many other displays of edification and God’s grace in the lives of the parents and children staying with us. A mom in a CNA program learning how to place an IV. She shared with staff how she’s been practicing nightly on a block of cheese to overcome her hesitation. A dad has taken intentional and empowered steps to improve his mental health. He also took his family to church for the very first time. A couple of young teens coming to cooking class to learn how to back their mom up when she works past mealtime. New community connections bringing hope to our staff that we’ll keep finding more and more housing solutions. With this we hope to increase our reach to different groups of vulnerable populations.
It’s impossible not to be excited seeing the way our community, our families, and this building are all coming together and becoming something new. We thank you for continuing to support this mission. And we hope you’re as moved as us by all that’s come from every shared minute, dollar, and prayer you’ve given.
