A Letter From the Vision House CEO, Derek Sciba

February 17, 2026

From the desk of Derek Sciba, Chief Executive Officer

I’m here to thank you and share the powerful impact your support is having on families at Vision House.

Thank you for sharing your generosity in so many ways:  through your monetary giving, your encouragement, and your prayers when it was needed most.

Today, I’m sharing two powerful stories made possible by your support. I hope that as you read them, you see the real and lasting difference your generosity made for local families at a critical moment when they needed help.

Before coming to Vision House, Jon and Jordyn move to Washington with their three young children in search of better job opportunities.  The housing they had arranged turned out to be unsafe and the family spend cold, wet, winter nights, sleeping in their car.

When a shelter opening finally became available, it was at a location that could only accept Jordyn and the children.  Jon stayed behind, sleeping in the car, determined to keep his family safe and warm, even if it meant being separated from them for a time.

Your gift changed everything for Jon and Jordyn. You gave them the help they needed so that their family could stay together.

Your gift made it possible to reunite them in a safe, furnished apartment at Vision House.  As their children squealed with delight at their new bedrooms, Jon and Jordyn were overwhelmed with gratitude.

“We just can’t believe how much God has blessed us by bringing us to the special place,” they shared through tears of joy.

Today, because of you, their family is thriving. The children are doing well in school and an after-school program, Jon has found the job he was hoping for when they moved here, and Jordyn has returned to school. In her free time, she even welcomes new families as they arrive at Vision House.

This beautiful outcome for Jon, Jordyn, and their children would not have been possible without your generosity, not just providing safe housing, but professional care, and a supportive community.  Thank you for being there for this family when they needed it most.

Sharon, a mother of three, was working as a property manager when a serious car accident left her injured and unable to work. With the loss of her job came the loss of her housing, which left Sharon and her children, Amy, Simone, and Joshua, with no option but to sleep in their car.

Sharon was eventually able to secure a new apartment, but the cost drained her savings. Despite interviewing for more than 100 jobs, she could not find work. When she received an eviction notice giving her just 30 days to move, Sharon knew she needed help.

Thankfully, that is when you stepped in.

As Sharon worked tirelessly to regain stability, you came alongside her by providing necessities like gas cards, groceries, and pull ups for her little ones. Your gift even helped provide a warm meal for the family when things were really hard. With childcare nearly 20 miles away, Sharon continued commuting while doing everything she could to keep her family afloat.

Through your support, Sharon eventually secured a new job. Vision House staff advocated on her behalf so she would not be evicted, and helped connect her with a partner organization that is working to cover her back rent.

Today, Sharon has stable employment, reliable childcare, and a safe place to call home.

When families like Sharon’s and Jon and Jordyn’s were facing crisis, your generosity made it possible for them to get back on their feet. Thank you for being there at the moments it mattered most.

None of these life-changing outcomes would be possible without you.

With my deepest gratitude,

Derek Sciba
