Help Our Kids Play Outdoors With a New Fence
We’re asking for help with a critical need at Vision House that directly impacts the care of families experiencing homelessness in the Seattle metro area. We’ve seen the impact of recent storms, harsh weather and daily wear and tear on our facilities recently, and on several important areas of our campus.
Help us raise $50,000 by April 17!
We are currently raising $50,000 by April 17 to make these repairs on a playground fence, a retaining wall, and other areas around our campus. These repairs are especially important for the children who live and play here. While the kids are not in danger, we believe that pride in our facilities translates to pride for our residents, and even more, that the kids who play in the playground deserve a well-maintained, strong and safe fence where they run around and play.
One those children is Sam, a toddler who arrived at Vision House with his mom after they briefly lived in their car and then in a shelter. Children like Sam have experienced such trauma and hardship. It’s so important to protect, counsel, and care for them while giving them the chance to be kids again. Safe outdoor play with other kids is an important part of that healing.
What Is The Need
“The current fence is a wood privacy fence that has reach its end of sustainable usage due to rot and deterioration. This need was magnified during December when windstorms blew down a section of fence that required an emergency repair to keep the area safe.” –Loren Ryan, Vision House Operations Director
Our perimeter fence at the child care playground has been in place for nearly 20 years now and needs to be replaced following recent wind storms. We are hoping to replace the old wooden fence with a chain-link fence that has privacy slats installed.
The fence sits atop a retaining wall that runs all around the property, and the wall needs a little attention after all these years as well. It’s not risky at the moment, but if left untreated, it could become a hazard. While the fence is being replaced is the most efficient time to give attention to the retaining wall as well.
This is all assuming we are able to obtain the necessary city permits, in addition to raising the necessary funding. We would love your partnership in prayer as we navigate the requirements of the city! Please join us in praying for smooth and swift actions on our application, review and issuance of all needed permits in this process.
Our Community Kids Deserve Safe Outdoor Play
We love these kids and they deserve a fence to continue keeping them safe while they play. This fence, along with other maintenance needs around campus, are essential to providing privacy, security, and safety for the children of our early learning center, as well as the residents and staff of Vision House.
Our need right now is to raise $50,000 by April 17th! Can you give today? We’re asking for your generosity to help ensure children can play outside safely, and give parents peace of mind to focus on rebuilding their lives. These repairs must be completed as soon as possible to ensure we are ready to welcome those who will need help next.
