The temperatures are frigid right now, and Vision House is seeing more and more families calling for help. Most have been sleeping in their cars or taking shelter in tents. Camping outside in the cold is what Sandia has been doing—shivering through the cold nights with her two young children.

Sandia was evicted because she couldn’t afford rent after her husband left her. She had no car or safe place to go, and each shelter she visited was already full and turned her family away. Sandia and her daughter and son, ages 7 and 5, had no choice but to sleep outside in a tent. Can you imagine?

You’ll help Sandia get job counseling so that she can financially support her family. You’ll help her find permanent housing, and she’ll gain life skills she wouldn’t have the chance to learn if she’s living on the streets.

Families that enter our program are equipped with counseling resources, housing resources, recovery services, and employment services. With job counseling or training, Sandia might find employment that uses her talents, is manageable within her schedule and childcare needs, and can financially support her and her family in permanent housing. Still she needs time and access to those resources.
